club fished the the half way point of the Bubba Bassin Draw trail on Lake
Winnisquam on June 16th. After the New Hampshire cut-off our members were
happy to return to NH waters to fish another Bubba Bassin tournament. With
lots of positive and productive reports coming from those pre-fishing
Winnisquam we were expected another stellar day out of majority of the 62
anglers. Winnisquam was on fire with all the reports so there was much
anticipation of a lot of catching and having fun for our anglers. The
weather forecast was even promising and indeed it provided us with a
beautiful day with 88 degree weather and mostly sunny with very mild winds
on the big lake.
We even had a special guest fishing with us this day. Roger Proulx from New
Hampshire Radio Network who is an avid fisherman on Winnisquam was invited
to fish his very first tournament. Bubba Bassin welcomed him during the
morning pre-tournament meeting and he felt very honored to be with us. He
enjoyed the outing so much that Bubba Bassin's director Rob Frye and Roger
discussed many ways of promoting Bubba Bassin and making it even more fun
for our members for upcoming events. More details to come on the Bubba
Bassin website but what was discussed was bringing the NH Radio Network to
the next draw trail tournament on Winnipesaukee out of Ames Farm. NH Radio
Network will be setting up an onsite sounds system during the weigh-in with
a radio personality from NHRN. NHRN is a partnership of radio stations
working together to assist and educate people of all ages in their quest to
Discover NH and off year round programs that are promoted and broadcasted on
19 NH radio stations. This will be very exciting for the next Bubba Bassin
Draw tournament and we hope to have a huge turn-out for this event. Roger
will be bringing prizes to give away including NH trips to amusement parks,
over night stays at NH resorts and much more. For every angler who weighs in
a fish at the next tournament will get a chance to spin the big NHRN wheel
to see if they will win one of these prizes. Again, this is very exciting
and we hope you do not miss it. Thanks again to Roger Proulx and the New
Hampshire Radio Network (www.nhradio.net).
Ok, back to our Winnisquam tournament and what a day this was for a lot of
our anglers with lots of fish caught during the day. The biggest weight of
the day came with a 5.88 lb largie kicker included in the two fish limit.
Congrats to Greg Day who found a mixed bag with the lunker largemouth of the
day and one sweet smallmouth to bring to the weigh-in that totaled 9.11
lbs!! Greg Day was sporting his new Triton boat that he bought this year
from Owen's Marine. Greg managed to catch 6 fish during the day on a
Carolina rigged spider grub in 5 to 6 feet of water. He did catch his limit
by 9:30 including one of his keeper fish. The day continued and he managed
to cull out for the other keeper fish that brought in that impressive
weight. Congrats again to Greg Day on his new toy and for winning the
event's top finisher spot. Greg will also receive a plaque at the end of the
year during the Bubba Bassin Club awards banquet/cook-out slated for October
20th.

Not far behind first place was the weight of 8.86 lbs that included another
kicker largie of 5.22. Congrats to Draw Tournament Director, Bob Hurst who
caught his limit by 9:30 as well on the almighty Senko. Bob was using the
larger Senko in 11 to 14 feet of weeds. Bob has a lot of patience letting
this slow dropping bait fall and it paid off for him in the long run. Bob
was anticipating first place but not to be out done by Mr. Day on this day
had to settle for second. Still it was a nice bag and still deserves a big
congratulations. Way to go Bobby..
Third place went to Matt Davis who had a stupendous day catching about 30+
fish. Matt fished Junebug senkos wacky rigged in 6 feet of water or less. He
had his limit by 8:00 AM and continued on his tear to catch as many fish as
he could. His hard earned work allowed him to take up the last pay-out spot
of the day. Congrats to big Matty Davis on a job well done.
The
First Losers Pool and the lunker smallie pool went to Dennis (the menace)
Brophy, aka Mouth. Way to go Dennis for bringing in a 3.74 lb fat smallmouth
that totalled his limit at 6.81 lbs, only 3/100ths of a pound above 5th
place to take the First Loser's spot. Dennis walked away with $550 for both
combined prizes, which is a huge pay-out for only a $25 entry fee which
included the $5 FLP fee. Dennis originally set off for largemouth but were
finding the fish were too small and then changed over to smallies. He caught
them in 7 feet of water or less on a smoke colored tube that caught his big
keepers of the day. Congrats again to Dennis Brophy on his big pay-out of a
day.
We also want to congratulate the winners of our many give-aways at this
event. Our free entry winner went to Roger Urbanski. Roger can use this free
entry to any of the remaining 2007 Bubba Bassin Draw tournaments. Kevin
Pederson won a TNT buzzbait lure cutsom made and donated by our very own
Marc Hamel. Steve Graham (aka Pizzaman), won a nice Beans buddy blaidbait
custom made and donated by Bob Lavierriere. Don Gagnon won a free bottle of
Boat Saver donated by Rod Laferriere our local Boat Saver rep. Also donated
on this day was a custom made Rod Rack made by one of our own Michael Spur.
The winner of that prize went to Wayne English. The last prize to be given
out was a pair of Canobie Lake passes donated by Roger Proulx of the New
Hampshire Radio Network. The lucky winner of these passes went to Marc
Hamel. Way to go guys on winning these Bubba extra prizes. Nothing like
making it fun right to the very end.
As another reminder, our next Bubba Bassin draw event will bring us to an
even bigger lake, Lake Winnipesaukee on June 30th out of Ames Farm. The club
standings are pretty tight for the top 10. After the Winni event we will
start adding the drops. First we will deduct 1 drop, then the next T we will
deduct a 2nd drop in the standings and then going forward after that we will
use the 3rd drop. So it will make it very interesting on how it will turn
out at the end. Don't forget, New Hampshire Radio Network will be there, so
make sure you join us for the fun on Winni. Also on another note, the NH
Fish & Game will also be present to start their biological study of tagging
tournament caught largemouth on Winnipesaukee. This is the first year and we
will support Fish and Game and hope that this study finds some positive
results.
