We had a cool start for our 38 players
for our Halloween Midweek, the last official midweek of the 2007 season.
(Yes I did say official, more to come later). It was a nice day, no wind,
plenty of sun and just a wonderful day to be fishing.
First to weigh in, who is known to be Mr. Sand Bagger himself, Rob Frye
with 14.67 lbs. Rob had fished the prior Sunday during the Team Bubba
T.O.C. and didn't get a bite all day. He decided to fish the midweek in
hopes of redeeming himself. By 11:00 Rob still didn't have a bite all day.
He then decided it was time to give up on the non-existent silver buddy
bite and head for largemouth. He was
almost ready to give-up around 12:30 and pack it up and head home. A
little luck came from a little phone call from his wife reminding him to
be home in time to take the kids out trick-or-treating. He was ready to
earn some wifey-points and head home early but
timing is everything. It was only a matter of being at the right place at
the right time. Wheeling his black/blue and purple jig he finally started
getting bit. Between 1:00 PM and 3:05 he was able to muster up 12 good
keeper largie bites including a 4.81 largemouth. He wheeled to a fine win
on a tough day for catching largemouth. Rob won this tourney out of his
trusty Skeeter, working stealth fully through some thick stuff fishing 2
to 6 feet deep just out from the banks. Sad Frye missed the largemouth lunker by just a mere .65
lbs. Wow, what fun at the scales. Beating him for the lunker largemouth
was Randy Smith. Randy’s lone fish came on a black jitter bug. Good job.
Second place goes to Bruce Acox with 13.46. Wow he says, what a day, three
limits by 10am and his lunker
smallmouth which by the way he caught on his hitchhikers spot. Bruce don’t
forget to tip the guide!. Bruce was also a wonderful good Samaritan. Jim
Peake’s ride was not happy on one cold fall day. Things always work out
though when you are a Bubba. Thanks goes out to all that helped Jim, Greg
and Mike Day. Sweet. Bruce talks to catching and catching. He thinks maybe
30 fish – and two or three he is still dreaming about as they pulled and
double pulled on his silver buddies and then doubled over his rod. Can’t
ask for a better time than that to win $$$. Guess it paid to let Jim hitch
a ride today.
Mike McNary – no stranger to our winning circle, took third place with
12.55. He had his limit by 1pm using drop shot rig and black and blue and
gold Senkos along with a sweet beaver (brown). Josh Lance with a very nice
bag of smallmouth came in sixth place with 11.87. Josh had his limit by
10am on silver buddies and watermelon spider grubs in 20m feet of water.
He caught around 20 fish all day.
Fifth place winner, Mike Keane caught just 5 fish all day, but they were
the right one’s. He caught his limit by high noon totaling 12.15
using spider grubs, green pumpkin. Sad Mike leaves states landing
after the weigh in and something breaks in his motor. Good thing that our
First Loser, Ed Rivera was there. Thanks for the call Mike and checking on
that last truck left at Lee’s Mills. I told Mike that it was that old guy
trying to figure out what Frye found out back in the Bassin. We have to
much fun guys!!
Sixth place went to Jim Peake with 11.87 who caught his limit by 10 am
also. All of his fish came on a silver buddy in 30 – 36 feet of water. Jim
talks to catching numbers all day, just none being a lunker kicker. Good
to see you Jim at our Midweek.
Our coveted First Loser’s spot went to Ed Rivera with 11.69. Good job.
Again thanks for watching our for our friends (Mike Keane).
There will be one more “Iron Man Tournament” on November 14th for those
brave and daring enough to come out and play (I told you there would be
more later. )
And last but surely not least our sponsor giveaways, the last ones for
2007. The Applebees gift certificate went to Eric Kuehne. The Action Paint
Ball gift certificate went to Richard Ouelette, the Berkley baits went to
Tom Lamb. Alan Denise took home a bottle of Bass Boat Saver and Josh Lane
was the recipient of the baits from Jim’s Quick Stop Custom Pro Tackle
Shop. Mike Day was the lucky recipient of the leatherman super tool from
Hutch’s Tent Rental. Again thank you to all our sponsor’s and remember to
continue to patronize them. We hope to see them all again next year for
our 2008 season.
