The day started rather
wet with major down pours early in the day starting around registration
time. Our tournament director Mike McNamara was doing his best during the
pre-tournament meeting with the give-aways and the send-off but was having
a hard time with the rain pouring down on us. By early noon the rain had
subsided and the rest of the day left us with the most beautiful sunlight
shining. That gave us plenty of time to dry off and when we came in it
was another great day on Ossipee. Thanks to Quinn’s Trading Post who
sponsored this event as they have at the previous night tournament and the
following Team Bubba open.
Now on to the midweek,
August 8, 2007: Alan
Denise, with a whopping 19.13 took first place by clobbering the field
with his new Skeeter ZX 225. Alan brought in 4 largemouth and 1 smallmouth
for his 5 fish limit. Alan’s bait of choice was his trusty buzz bait from
Rocky Ledge Baits. Alan states that he had his limit by 8am. What a
great start to his day. He also had time to show his grandson Tyler how
to throw a medium Pop-R. Congrats to Alan for winning this sanctioned
event for Skeeter Real Money. He will receive Skeeter Real Money of $3000
just because he was fishing out of his brand new 2008 ZX 225.
Great Job Buddy. Alan is also our Lunker largemouth winner as well with a
4.94 largemouth. Along with everything else today, he and his grandson
will also enjoy a gift certificate to Quinn’s Trading Post. What a take
for just one day!! Well Tyler, does that grandfather of yours know how to
fish or what?? I am sure we will be seeing more of Mr. Tyler.
Alan is a pro-staff for
Team Skeeter out of Ken's Yamaha who has two locations in Tamworth, NH and
Norway, ME. Alan commented, "I've been looking at Skeeter boats for a long
time. He's rode in them all (referring to other bass boat brands). They
have one of the best rides and are such a superior performance boat. It
only makes more sense to purchase a Skeeter/Yamaha package especially
because of the Skeeter Real Money rewards program and Bubba Bassin. Anyone
can and could win a Bubba Bassin tournament, its all a matter of timing
and luck. And to do it in a Skeeter boat weather it be new or used can
make it even more rewarding and worthwhile."
Coming in second was
Scott Smith with 16.00. He caught his limit by noon. Hold on … from then
on caught another 12 keepers along with a very sweet smallie that tipped
the scales at 4.97 lbs. Scott brought in 4 largemouth and 1 smallmouth to
the scales. Most of his fish came from shallow water out in the large
portion of the lake. Scott caught his big smallie on a senko and was
hoping for the lunker smallmouth award but Ossipee would reward that
trophy to another angler with an even bigger smallmouth.
Third place with 5
largemouth went to Rob Frye with 15.07 who is no stranger to the winners
circle these days. He claims that he fished the same grass beds that Dave
Tsao fished the during night tournament in which he took 2nd
place during the night tournament. Thanks for the tip Dave. Rob states
that he had his limit early also around 8:45. He also spent some quality
time at the docks doing his thing. Rob caught all of his fish on
Tournament Force Junebug 3/8 ounce jigs with a Junebug Yamamoto twin-tail
spidergrub as a trailer. He also caught some fish on 6 inch Green pumpkin
Senkos.
Fourth place was
claimed by Steve Graham with 13.21. He caught his first fish early as
well using a slider rig and lizard. Great Job Steve in bringing in 4
largemouth and 1 smallmouth .
Our coveted First
Loser's spot went to Kurt Damery. We anticipated Kurt to come in the money
for this tournament since he has spent a lot of time on Ossipee. He has a
camp right on the lake that makes it very convenient for him. He fished
mostly top water on his spots and found it to be a very tough bite. But
for the four 3-plus pound fish that he mustered up they were significant
enough to take the First Losers Pool with 12.68 lbs. Congratulations
Kurt!
As for this week’s
lunker smallmouth that went to the one and only Mike Mac with a 5.45 pound
smallie. Mike caught that smallie in the company of many over at Pine
River on a red Senko. Mike claims it was a fluke bite because it was one
of those situations where he just tied it on, caught that big fish, and
what a fish it was. Then for the rest of the day it provided nothing. Mike
brought in 1 largemouth and that 1 smallmouth to the scales but that fish
will stay in Mike’s memory for a very long time. Sweet Fish Mike!!
A very big Thank You
goes out to our sponsors for their wonderful support. We appreciate all
you do for us. Winning a bottle of Bass Boat Saver was Scott Smith. The
winner of the Applebee’s gift certificate from Park Ave was Rod Taylor.
The Action Paintball gift certificate from Angelo Rigano went to Wayne
England and the Berkley baits went to Mike Spurr. Winning our two
giveaways from Quinn’s Trading Post were Alan Denise & Tyler and then
Chuck Huston. Last but not least, the winner of a free entry to any 2007
Midweek was Kurt Damery, our First Loser. Congratulations to all the
winners. Enjoy. And to all our Bubba’s remember to support our
sponsors. Again thank you Rob for MC’ing. It was a pleasure.
And Thanks to the 63 anglers that came out to play at today's event.
Our next midweek will
be on August 22nd back on Winni. See you all there.
