Bubba Bassin club had their draw trail
event at Winnipesaukee for the second time in 2007 with the first one on
June 30th and with the most recent on August 18th. This event was sponsored
by Arma Coatings of New Hampshire who we want to thank for their support of
Bubba Bassin. They donated gift certificates for a spray on bedline to the
top 3 places as well as a few more for door prizes. Thanks again to Arma
Coatings of New Hampshire who will also be sponsoring the upcoming Midweek
and Team Bubba events scheduled also on Winni. On this day 61 anglers came
out to play on a very windy day. The weather forecast was set for partly
sunny skies with winds in the 10 to 20 mph range. Basically, that's how the
day started but we saw 30+ mph gusts and constant 20+ winds. With the
West/Northwest winds came the big waves and those venturing across the
broads were set for a very rude awakening.

on Ossipee Lake. Ossipee Lake is the furthest North tournament scheduled on
the Bubba Bassin trails. A Very Special Thanks to Quinn's Trading Post from

Bubba Bassin Club had their
6th 2007 draw trail tournament on Lake Winnipesaukee on June 30th
launching out of Ames Farm. Special thanks to the NH Radio Network for
their onsite setup during the weigh-in and the tournament's sponsor,
Northeast Battery. It was the day after a cold front had moved through and
the day's forecast was for mostly sunny, highs in the upper 70's and wind 5-10 mph.
The wind certainly was higher with wind gusts over 30 and large rollers
out on the broads. With the combination of the waves from the high wind
and the heavy weekend boat traffic we ended up with a couple of broken
boats by the end of the day. Still all 63 anglers came in by the 3:30
return time to weigh-in their catch. All anglers who weighed in fish would
then stick around for prizes to be given away including a brand new Trojan
Battery provided by Northeast Battery and their representative, Jack Roy.

Bubba Bassin
club fished the the half way point of the Bubba Bassin Draw trail on Lake
Winnisquam on June 16th. After the New Hampshire cut-off our members were
happy to return to NH waters to fish another Bubba Bassin tournament. With
lots of positive and productive reports coming from those pre-fishing
Winnisquam we were expected another stellar day out of majority of the 62
anglers. Winnisquam was on fire with all the reports so there was much
anticipation of a lot of catching and having fun for our anglers. The
weather forecast was even promising and indeed it provided us with a
beautiful day with 88 degree weather and mostly sunny with very mild winds
on the big lake.
Bubba Bassin club returned
to their annual trip to Shirley Reservoir during the Massachusetts Free
Fishing weekend on June 3rd, 2007. This waterbody always has a great
turn-out for a Bubba tournament, as well as other organizations. Shirley
Reservoir is a 354 acre impoundment that borders Shirley and Lunenburg,
MA. It may seem small in acres but it has plenty of shoreline with over 16
coves and sub-coves. This lake does see the pressure with a tournament on
this lake almost every weekend of the tournament season.

Bubba Bassin Club members fished the third draw trail tournament of the 2007
season on Lake Pawtuckaway in Nottingham/Raymond, NH on May 12, 2007. The day's forecast was
expected to reach 65 degrees with up to 10 mph out of the ENE and eventually
changing to ESE. The clouds intermittently blocked the sun’s rays but the
sun stayed out most of the day which played a key role in a lot of the
angler’s patterns to find fish. The water temps ranged around 66 to 69
degrees through out the lake.

Saturday's tournament started off as a wet
and cold morning with the sunshine to break out in the early afternoon.
Water temps were pretty stable around 48 to 50 degrees. Lots of stories of
most of the bites coming off of jigs and silver buddies. The other early
Spring bait such as jerk baits, crankbaits and spinnerbaits were not as
productive.

Bubba Bassin Club had their season opener on Lake
Massabessic with 54 anglers coming out to play. The lake has been open
for just over a week which kept the water temp low around 39 to 40
degrees thruout the whole lake. The weather also made things a little
uncomfortable with winds blowing down the lake from the
North/Northeast at 10 to 15 mph.
The bite was far from the best with only 6 anglers catching limits and
a total of 24 fish brought into the weigh-in. Congrats to John Diacco
for taking first place with 2 largemouth at 6.11 lbs with his biggest
weighing in at 4.19 lbs. John used a wide variety of baits but his
only two bites of the day came off of jerk baits in 5 feet of water.

brought us back to Ossipee Lake for our final Bubba Bassin event on this
great body of water. The two previous tournaments from the Bubba Draw trail

winners averaging around a 4 pound average. Once again this Ossipee
tournament was sponsored by Quinn's Trading Post from Union, NH. Special
thanks to Bill and Chrissy Quinn for all their support.

Standings] The Team Bubba trail went to Pawtuckaway Lake in Nottingham, NH for their
annual night tournament for the 2007 season on Saturday, July 21st. The
Bubba night tournaments are scheduled to start at 7:00 PM with a 12 hour
duration until the scheduled weigh-in time at 7:00 AM. Night tournaments
can be very fun and productive with multiple time frames for a productive
bite including the evening bite, the night-time bite and the early morning
bite that you don't see during a conventional 7AM to 3 PM tournament.
Mother Nature once again has given us a beautiful forecast for this night.
The humidity was low and no chance of any precipitation. The temps were
going to plummet to a much colder night than normal.

We had a stupendous turn-out for this event with 37 teams coming out to
play in the water body that's known and named for its plethora of stumps
and logs. The weather forecast was for mostly cloudy with cold Canadian
winds blowing from the Northwest at 15 to 20 mph. After everyone had
finally launched and parked their trucks and trailers in the somewhat
tight quarters we took off just after 7 AM with David Tsao and Bob Hurst
as our send-off boat.

Another "day after" tournament for the Bubba Bassin Team trail for the 4th
trail event of the year. Our annual Father's Day event took us to Lake
Winnisquam on June 17th launching out of Martel's Bait and Tackle. We had a
great turn-out with 38 teams trying Winnisquam again the day after the Bubba
Bassin draw trail just fished it with an impressive winning weight of 9.11
lbs by Greg Day for his 2 fish limit. The forecast again informed us of
another repeat day of beautiful weather with the temps in the mid 80's and
becoming partly cloudy to all clouds with a temptation of a Thunderstorm
brewing in from the west.

The third Team Bubba Open occurred on June 4th on Shirley Reservoir the
day after the club trail held their event. On this day Mother Nature
showed us how she could change the New England weather with the snap of
her fingers. On Saturday during the club trail the weather was in the low
90's and hot and muggy, zapping the energy out of many of our anglers. On
Sunday, the weather changed to breezy and colder temps around the high
50's. Would this affect the bite, one would assume so but of course,
someone always finds those fish for the weigh-in.

The day started off with temps in the mid 40's for a chilly start with cold
winds blowing 10+ mph out of the NNE. The forecast was calling for a colder
day with a high of 55 degrees, compared to the previous days of 60+ degrees.
If you were positioned in the wind it felt much colder but if you were out
of the wind and if the sun peaked thru the clouds it felt like it was in the
high 70's. That's the way the day went, one moment you were shedding
clothing and then a few minutes later you were throwing them back on.
Congrats to our Richardson/Smith Winners on
Team Bubba Open on Winni
We were very
happy to see all the teams that made it to our first 2007 Team Bubba
tournament on Lake Winnipesaukee. Mother Nature made sure that the
tournament committee had to second guess where they were going to have
their first tournament. We prevailed on keeping it on Winni and had 32
anxious teams that were ready to play in the 44+ degree temp waters. On
tournament day the forecast was expected to be sunny with air temps in
the 70's. It was indeed a beautiful day to be out on the water and on
Winni. The tournament started on time at 7:00 with a safety stipulation
of an off-limits anything below southern neck of Moultonborough Bay. At
the time of the tournament there was still ice blocking the neck heading
towards 20 mile bay and the Graveyard.

oversleeps. Must be getting old. We all missed him.
Bubba Good Deed: I

tournament which also was our second and final sanctioned tournament for
the Nitro boat giveaway. Our First place winner Rich Wentworth is going to
the Nitro boat giveaway tournament in October along with Peter Weeks, the
highest placing Nitro / Tracker owner. Good luck to all of you. Had a
little bit of confusing time at the end of the day figuring out the
highest placing nitro / tracker boater thinking it was Mike McNary, but
when the results were all in and tabulated, it was Peter Weeks, just
beating him by 11.10 to 10.90. Sorry Mike, Congrats to Peter.

The first midweek of
the 2007 season was greeted by an absolutely breathtaking sunrise. See a
great photo that was taken on the Bubba Photos Page. We were gifted with
a warm but pleasant day out on Newfound Lake as 33 dedicated midweek
fishermen fished their first midweek this year. Great fishing, great
stories and even ones about that fish that got away could be heard as the
day wound down.
To begin this years
winning circle, Joe Lucarelli took first place bringing home his second
Midweek win. Congratulations Joe. Joe proclaims his winning pattern was
the use of the watermelon Senko. His big fish weight of 3.84 was caught
in 15 feet of water using the watermelon Senko. Backing that up with
another nice fish 3.67 was also caught with a watermelon Senko in 15 feet
of water.
