Joe Lucarelli Takes the First 2007 Midweek Win
Story by Mike McNamara

The first midweek of the 2007 season was greeted by an absolutely breathtaking sunrise. See a great photo that was taken on the Bubba Photos Page.  We were gifted with a warm but pleasant day out on Newfound Lake as 33 dedicated midweek fishermen fished their first midweek this year. Great fishing, great stories and even ones about that fish that got away could be heard as the day wound down.

To begin this years winning circle, Joe Lucarelli took first place bringing home his second Midweek win.  Congratulations Joe.  Joe proclaims his winning pattern was the use of the watermelon Senko.  His big fish weight of 3.84 was caught in 15 feet of water using the watermelon Senko.  Backing that up with another nice fish 3.67 was also caught with a watermelon Senko in 15 feet of water.

Coming in second place with 7.34 was Bob Savoie using a totally different technique, the spider grub.  He caught his kicker fish of 4.00 lbs, lunker smallmouth, using the spider grub in 5 – 8 feet of water. Using this same technique in the same water he caught his second fish at 3.34.  Bob is not sharing his color though.  Congratulations Bob.

Third place was taken by Peter Weeks using a similar technique as Joe Lucarelli, the watermelon Senko but in 12 feet of water.  His big fish was 3.72 bringing him into third place with 7.21.  Great Job Peter.

Bobby Girl Hurst took fourth place with 7.19 and tied for 2nd lunker smallmouth with a great fish at 3.89 using a technique that was foreign to this young man – Spider Grubs.  He then returned to his trusty Senko to finish his day with a series of 5 fish and the one that got away, which would have been “the fish”, that snapped off.  Sorry Bobby Girl, better luck next time. J

Steve Graham, the most patient man on a hot day, took 5th place with 6.97 with a big fish of 3.61.  Way to go Steve.  He was Boat 1 of the day, but had to wait until “Big Daddy” Mike Mac came in to go home because inadvertently Steve’s cars keys were in Mike Mac’s boat.

And last but not least, the coveted First Loser’s spot goes to Alan Denise, Sick boy, with 6.73.

We had a special guest today, Bryce Anderson who came along today to keep Grandpa Joe Anderson out of trouble and ended up putting the smack down on Grandpa beating him by 1.12 with 6.22 and a lunker of 3.20.  Hope to see you again soon Bryce and thank you for the hug.

Thank you to all our sponsors.  The winner of the Bass Boat Saver was Scott Smith, the Berkley bait went to Sandy Irrera, Tracy Gerbert Jr was the winner of the Applebee’s gift certificate, Matt Davis took home the Paint Ball Gift Certification and lastly the winner of a free entry to any 2007 midweek was Cory Nearing.  Congratulations to all.

A thank you also needs to be relayed to our host Bill Grout of Wellington State Park for accommodating us.  We will see you again next year.

Mark your calendars; the next midweek is on July 11th on Winni.  Remember this is a sanctioned event for the Nitro 591 giveaway.  See you all there.
