Team Bubba held a Winnisquam T won by Chris Girard and Peter Burkhart. Where we had 17 teams and it was a hot day. Though there were only eight teams to weigh in the bags were heavy. Topped by a 20 lb bag from Chris Girard and Peter Burkhart. A day that was supposed to be in the 80s turned out to be 93 by the end of the tourney. We had a nice little audience of future fisherman to watch the weigh in. Many fish were seen swimming in the shallows but proved hard to coax into a free meal.

Joe Spinello wins on Winni
With the threat of thunderstorms all night, a few brave anglers came to play for the night on July 24th on Winnipesaukee. Joey Spinello reported that he was able to land about 20 keepers, which landed him the winning bag at 14.66 lbs. Joe says he spent most of the night fishing a buzz bait around and in between docks.  [Read more]

The only kicker of the first 2009 club event edges Marc Hamel's win on BIP.

Bubba Bassin Club started their first tournament for the 2009 trail on Big Island Pond in Hampstead, NH. The lake is comparably smaller than the rest of the scheduled waterbodies but it was a good place to start. Taking the very first crown of the year was Marc Hamel with a final weight of 6.47 lbs. His two largemouth also included the tournament largemouth lunker that tipped the scales at 4.78 lbs. Marc caught his first bass at 7:15 and had his limit fish just before 9 AM. He ended up catching about 10 fish for the day using mostly..Full Story]

John Dean and Jake Faneuf jerks up the winning fish on Massabessic
The season opener for the 2009 Team Bubba trail started on Lake Massabessic in Auburn, NH on April 21st. The lake has two main water bodies with one half on the Auburn side and the other on the Manchester side. We had a terrific turn-out of 39 teams coming out to fish for a little friendly competition. Massabessic had been iced-out for almost 3 weeks now giving some of the anglers time to do a little pre-fishing for this one. With all the home work that was done there still wasn't a boat load of fish caught. [Full Story]

Pete Weeks catches the big bag at Newfound Midweek
The morning started a little on the hectic side, to say the least, with everyone hyped up including me. It was a little breezy with a light rain but all the children just wanted to catch those big smallies.
First place winner Peter Weeks took this spot using spinner baits all day. Peter caught all his big fish early on with the wind blown shores of Newfound. He popped his lunker smallmouth during that little bit of rain we all got. Peter took the second lunker with 4.23 and first place overall with 7.92. [Read More]

Mike Vining wins the Midweek Season Opener on Lake Winnipesaukee
Happy New Year.  And with that Mike Vining picks up just where he left off last year winning on Winni.  Well the morning was cool compared to the day’s past to say the least. Our long time friend Gerry Blanchette showed up just in time to draw our winner Mike and Gerry got to see it all.  Mike talks to catching his limit by 11 and on spinner baits.  Made a hard decision to trade in his spinner bait to go to a jerk bait.  Working that jerk bait for the rest of the day looking for that kicker fish.

Final 2008 Sweetheart trail tournament won by Denise Allain and Gary Croteau on Winni.
This is the closure of a wonderful first year of the sweetheart trail. Many thank you’s go out to all those that helped to make this first year such a success from those that helped with parking, registrations, weigh in’s to those that put on such a great end of trail barbecue for everyone. So much effort has been put into making this first year a success and it sure did pay off. A round of applause must be shared for Elizabeth and Greg Day tournament directors, along with their posse Sue and Bob Hurst, Betty and Alan Denise, Sara and Mike McNamara, Denise Allain and Gary Croteau, Deb Ash and Mike Spurr, Kelly McNamara and Jim Peake and I am sure we are forgetting a few others, so thank you to all. You ladies rock for getting that barbecue going and helping with the photo shoots and putting up with the cranky old men and yes some cranky young men. Just my take on things.[Full Story]

Marc Hamel Red Hot with swim baits at Ossipee Club T

Story by Mike McNamara

[Slide Show] [Results][Story]

Well, Day started off hot and sticky. And it never changed. Red hot. Just like Marc Hamel, red hot. Marc spanks the field with 16.59 with a kicker largemouth at 6.31. Really nice bag. Congratulations to Marc, we will get that photo off to you. Marc talks to catching his monster on a swim bait, fishing the weeds with scum frogs,. Had his limit by 11 am. Damn the man was in the zone. Even his non-boater had a nice bag. Spent most of his day on points with weeds. Again Congratulations

Coming in second was Dave Morin. Dave had his limit by 11 and culled another three times. Caught his fish on Senkos , swimmer baits. Dave’s big largemouth was 3.20 which helped his cause along with an almost 3 pound smallie (2.88). His total weight was 11.82.

Nashua River prospers with One Fish Wonders.

By Rob Frye

[Story] [Photos] [Results] [Standings]

Nashua River became the start spot for the 2008 Bubba Bassin Club draw trail. The season opener was initially scheduled for Big Island Pond in Hampstead, NH. Due to the presence of ice and lack of water at B.I.P. we were forced to choose the alternate launching out of Nashua, NH.

We were proud of our 49 anglers who found themselves making it to the 2008 Bubba Bassin Club season opener that started out cold and very wet. Mother Nature would redeem herself by mid morning with clear skies with the sun beating down. The sun was a very unexpected welcome as it forced us through-out the day to shed our almost ice-fishing apparel, plus rain gear. Always better to be safe then sorry, and cold. Dress prepared and consider yourself fortunate if you get to shed the layers.

Mike Vining takes a win on Ossipee Midweek

Story by Mike McNamara

[Results] [Slide Show] [Story]

A middle of the road day, the real bad weather held off. The day was pretty wonderful considering we could have all been rained on pretty hard but we weren’t. Thank you to all that came along for the long haul and fun to see the group from the north again, Don, Scott, Travis and Kurt. We had a good turnout for such unsettled weather. Cant wait to be back there on Saturday

Coming in first place Mike Vining with 15.61, all green fish. Mike talked to culling by 9:30. He caught up to about 9 fish using tubes and jigs in 2 – 4 feet of water. Mike also had a nice kicker fish at 4.34. Nice seeing you, hope to see you soon

Second place went to Josh Lane with 15.23, 3 largemouth and 2 smallmouth and one of those smallmouth being the lunker of the day at 4.97. Josh talked to being in a school of smallies first thing in the morning and losing at least two more fish at least as big as his lunker. Looks like that Bubba had a pretty good morning. Josh had his limit at 10 am and never culled. Nothing was big enough.

John Wright spanks the field on Winnipesaukee

Story by Mike McNamara

[Results] [Slide Show] [Story]

What a day! Hot Hot Hot. It’s all about timing. Well sure enough our timing stunk. Just as we started our weigh in two inch rain drops just pummeled those that were waiting at the scale, but a little rain never stops a true fisherman, so Bobby Girl weighs us in in the rain. We just couldn’t get the tent up fast enough. It’s all good

Here ye here ye here ye….
John Wright spanked the field today. Ok just a little, but damn it’s his first win and he did it big today with a gigantic bag totaling 17.87 for 5 fish and a giant largemouth at 6.25. What a toad! How do we say it John, SWEEEETTTT. John caught all his fish by 10:30 in Paugus Bay on top water plugs, and plastics. He caught a total of 6 fish. Nicely done. Congratulations

Congratulations and well done to Mark Peabody on the first 2008 Bubba Midweek.

Well the 2008 season is off to a great start – 34 players on our first midweek.

Hello to a friend in Iraq. – Jeff Bitcon. This long distance hello comes from Big Joe, the frozen Floridian. He says hello to Jeff in Iraq. Along with Joe’s hello, all the Bubba’s say hello too.

Now it wasn’t as warm as the last time that Mike and Joe fished, and we didn’t see any gators, but a fun time as well.

Morning started at a brisk 27 degrees and a mild breeze of 12 miles an hours. Water temps in the mid 40’s. Reports of one crazy man running to Paugus across the broads. Noticed many others just peaking out at the broads, but decided to stay put. Again 34 braved the cold. But were rewarded with a pretty good smallmouth bite. What a difference a few days makes, the largie bite was a bit tough. We only caught 13 largemouth and for the most part all of them were very respectful.

Bubba Bassin had their second of three tournaments held for the 2008 Bubba Bassin Sweetheart Trail on Saturday, July 12th. Twenty-one Sweetheart teams made the field on Lake Massabessic bordering Auburn and Manchester, NH. The day was a perfect pick by the tournament directors. The weather forecast was right on the money with mostly sunny day, temps around 85 degrees, and the occasional cooling breeze that ranged from 0 to 10 mph.

Registration went well as expected with the added bonus of long-stem carnations being handed out to all the sweethearts. What a perfect touch for such a fun event. The Tournament Directors, Greg and Elizabeth hosted the pre-tournament meeting on the water before send-off to go over some ground rules for all the teams to abide by. The send-off started about 8:10 AM with much expectations to start on the teams' 6 bag limits before the 3:15 return time.

How wonderful it was to see everyone chatting / laughing / having fun talking about the first tournament of the sweetheart trail. What a wonderful way to start a year with all the sweethearts so excited.

Weather was OK, we got really lucky. Forecast was for some severe weather that we never got, right through the weigh in. A light drizzle just as we were pulling the boats out, but at least the sweethearts didn’t get wet.

2007 Club Draw Trail

Gary Croteau prevails over the windy conditions for the Winnipesaukee win.

Story by Rob Frye

[Story] [Photos] [Results] [Standings]

Bubba Bassin club had their draw trail event at Winnipesaukee for the second time in 2007 with the first one on June 30th and with the most recent on August 18th. This event was sponsored by Arma Coatings of New Hampshire who we want to thank for their support of Bubba Bassin. They donated gift certificates for a spray on bedline to the top 3 places as well as a few more for door prizes. Thanks again to Arma Coatings of New Hampshire who will also be sponsoring the upcoming Midweek and Team Bubba events scheduled also on Winni. On this day 61 anglers came out to play on a very windy day. The weather forecast was set for partly sunny skies with winds in the 10 to 20 mph range. Basically, that's how the day started but we saw 30+ mph gusts and constant 20+ winds. With the West/Northwest winds came the big waves and those venturing across the broads were set for a very rude awakening.

Lucky "3" for Rob Frye's win at the Bubba Bassin Draw on Winnipesaukee sponsored by Northeast Battery with the weigh-in presented by the New Hampshire Radio Network

Bubba Bassin Club had their 6th 2007 draw trail tournament on Lake Winnipesaukee on June 30th launching out of Ames Farm. Special thanks to the NH Radio Network for their onsite setup during the weigh-in and the tournament's sponsor, Northeast Battery. It was the day after a cold front had moved through and the day's forecast was for mostly sunny, highs in the upper 70's and wind 5-10 mph. The wind certainly was higher with wind gusts over 30 and large rollers out on the broads. With the combination of the waves from the high wind and the heavy weekend boat traffic we ended up with a couple of broken boats by the end of the day. Still all 63 anglers came in by the 3:30 return time to weigh-in their catch. All anglers who weighed in fish would then stick around for prizes to be given away including a brand new Trojan Battery provided by Northeast Battery and their representative, Jack Roy.

Bubba Bassin club fished the the half way point of the Bubba Bassin Draw trail on Lake Winnisquam on June 16th. After the New Hampshire cut-off our members were happy to return to NH waters to fish another Bubba Bassin tournament. With lots of positive and productive reports coming from those pre-fishing Winnisquam we were expected another stellar day out of majority of the 62 anglers. Winnisquam was on fire with all the reports so there was much anticipation of a lot of catching and having fun for our anglers. The weather forecast was even promising and indeed it provided us with a beautiful day with 88 degree weather and mostly sunny with very mild winds on the big lake.

[Story] [Photos] [Full Results] [Latest Standings]

Bubba Bassin club returned to their annual trip to Shirley Reservoir during the Massachusetts Free Fishing weekend on June 3rd, 2007. This waterbody always has a great turn-out for a Bubba tournament, as well as other organizations. Shirley Reservoir is a 354 acre impoundment that borders Shirley and Lunenburg, MA. It may seem small in acres but it has plenty of shoreline with over 16 coves and sub-coves. This lake does see the pressure with a tournament on this lake almost every weekend of the tournament season.

Bubba Bassin Club members fished the third draw trail tournament of the 2007 season on Lake Pawtuckaway in Nottingham/Raymond, NH on May 12, 2007. The day's forecast was expected to reach 65 degrees with up to 10 mph out of the ENE and eventually changing to ESE. The clouds intermittently blocked the sun’s rays but the sun stayed out most of the day which played a key role in a lot of the angler’s patterns to find fish. The water temps ranged around 66 to 69 degrees through out the lake.

Saturday's tournament started off as a wet and cold morning with the sunshine to break out in the early afternoon. Water temps were pretty stable around 48 to 50 degrees. Lots of stories of most of the bites coming off of jigs and silver buddies. The other early Spring bait such as jerk baits, crankbaits and spinnerbaits were not as productive.

Congrats to our Lucky Winners on Massy Draw

Bubba Bassin Club had their season opener on Lake Massabessic with 54 anglers coming out to play. The lake has been open for just over a week which kept the water temp low around 39 to 40 degrees thruout the whole lake. The weather also made things a little uncomfortable with winds blowing down the lake from the North/Northeast at 10 to 15 mph.

The bite was far from the best with only 6 anglers catching limits and a total of 24 fish brought into the weigh-in. Congrats to John Diacco for taking first place with 2 largemouth at 6.11 lbs with his biggest weighing in at 4.19 lbs. John used a wide variety of baits but his only two bites of the day came off of jerk baits in 5 feet of water.

The Team Bubba trail went to Pawtuckaway Lake in Nottingham, NH for their annual night tournament for the 2007 season on Saturday, July 21st. The Bubba night tournaments are scheduled to start at 7:00 PM with a 12 hour duration until the scheduled weigh-in time at 7:00 AM. Night tournaments can be very fun and productive with multiple time frames for a productive bite including the evening bite, the night-time bite and the early morning bite that you don't see during a conventional 7AM to 3 PM tournament. Mother Nature once again has given us a beautiful forecast for this night. The humidity was low and no chance of any precipitation. The temps were going to plummet to a much colder night than normal.

The weather forecast was for mostly cloudy with cold Canadian winds blowing from the Northwest at 15 to 20 mph. After everyone had finally launched and parked their trucks and trailers in the somewhat tight quarters we took off just after 7 AM with David Tsao and Bob Hurst as our send-off boat.

Another "day after" tournament for the Bubba Bassin Team trail for the 4th trail event of the year. Our annual Father's Day event took us to Lake Winnisquam on June 17th launching out of Martel's Bait and Tackle. We had a great turn-out with 38 teams trying Winnisquam again the day after the Bubba Bassin draw trail just fished it with an impressive winning weight of 9.11 lbs by Greg Day for his 2 fish limit. The forecast again informed us of another repeat day of beautiful weather with the temps in the mid 80's and becoming partly cloudy to all clouds with a temptation of a Thunderstorm brewing in from the west.

The third Team Bubba Open occurred on June 4th on Shirley Reservoir the day after the club trail held their event. On this day Mother Nature showed us how she could change the New England weather with the snap of her fingers. On Saturday during the club trail the weather was in the low 90's and hot and muggy, zapping the energy out of many of our anglers. On Sunday, the weather changed to breezy and colder temps around the high 50's. Would this affect the bite, one would assume so but of course, someone always finds those fish for the weigh-in.

The day started off with temps in the mid 40's for a chilly start with cold winds blowing 10+ mph out of the NNE. The forecast was calling for a colder day with a high of 55 degrees, compared to the previous days of 60+ degrees. If you were positioned in the wind it felt much colder but if you were out of the wind and if the sun peaked thru the clouds it felt like it was in the high 70's. That's the way the day went, one moment you were shedding clothing and then a few minutes later you were throwing them back on.

Congrats to our Richardson/Smith Winners on Team Bubba Open on Winni

We were very happy to see all the teams that made it to our first 2007 Team Bubba tournament on Lake Winnipesaukee. Mother Nature made sure that the tournament committee had to second guess where they were going to have their first tournament. We prevailed on keeping it on Winni and had 32 anxious teams that were ready to play in the 44+ degree temp waters. On tournament day the forecast was expected to be sunny with air temps in the 70's. It was indeed a beautiful day to be out on the water and on Winni. The tournament started on time at 7:00 with a safety stipulation of an off-limits anything below southern neck of Moultonborough Bay. At the time of the tournament there was still ice blocking the neck heading towards 20 mile bay and the Graveyard.

What a wonderful piece of water.  We had 62 players on such a wonderful day.  Everyone enjoyed the sunny day.  Morning start off was a little cooler, just ask our polar bear swimmers.  Greg Day was the first to take a dive, followed by Matt Davis joining in the fun (not intentionally).  Bobby (girl) Hurst oversleeps.  Must be getting old.  We all missed him.

Bubba Good Deed:   I also want to take the time here to thank Brian Lafrancois for giving up his weigh in to tow an old buck clear across Squam to his dock.  Brian contacted Rod Laferriere and said “taking one for the team”.  Thank you for your compassion.

Well, another nice day on Winni and it looks like the answer to last’s tournaments question – Does anybody work anymore? is not many. We had a great turnout for our 3rd Midweek tournament which also was our second and final sanctioned tournament for the Nitro boat giveaway. Our First place winner Rich Wentworth is going to the Nitro boat giveaway tournament in October along with Peter Weeks, the highest placing Nitro / Tracker owner. Good luck to all of you. Had a little bit of confusing time at the end of the day figuring out the highest placing nitro / tracker boater thinking it was Mike McNary, but when the results were all in and tabulated, it was Peter Weeks, just beating him by 11.10 to 10.90. Sorry Mike, Congrats to Peter.

By early noon the rain had subsided and the rest of the day left us with the most beautiful sunlight shining.  That gave us plenty of time to dry off and when we came in it was another great day on Ossipee. Our two Bubba’s, Mark Peabody, our first place champion and Alan Denise, the top placing Nitro/Tracker owner are on their way to the October tournament. The first midweek of the 2007 season was greeted by an absolutely breathtaking sunrise. See a great photo that was taken on the Bubba Photos Page.  We were gifted with a warm but pleasant day out on Newfound Lake as 33 dedicated midweek fishermen fished their first midweek this year. Great fishing, great stories and even ones about that fish that got away could be heard as the day wound down.

To begin this years winning circle, Joe Lucarelli took first place bringing home his second Midweek win.  Congratulations Joe.  Joe proclaims his winning pattern was the use of the watermelon Senko.  His big fish weight of 3.84 was caught in 15 feet of water using the watermelon Senko.  Backing that up with another nice fish 3.67 was also caught with a watermelon Senko in 15 feet of water.

Another beautiful day with plenty of sun and warm-to-hot temps was blessed to us on the second annual Sweetheart Tournament on Lake Massabessic for July 14, 2007. We had 38 Sweetheart teams join us that comprised of Husband/Wife, Boyfriend/Girlfriend, Friend/Friend and Adult/Child teams. It was an exciting day with much excitement and camaraderie with all the players. Even the wives who were very unfamiliar with this type of event showed much excitement and enthusiasm.
